Guitar Jérôme Thibouville Lamy 1840

A romantic guitar ideal for lovers of vintage guitars.

Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy & Cie

Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy & Cie, “J.T.L.”, was a French musical instrument manufacturing company, formed in the mid-19th century by the merger of several manufacturers. Based in Mirecourt, France, it produced numerous string, wind and brass instruments until the mid-20th century. The company also produced a large number of mechanical organs and organettes between 1880 and 1910. Some of these models were built under license from the Gavioli company. The name was adopted around 1867 after Louis Émile Jérôme Thibouville, a partner in the instrument manufacturer Husson-Buthod-Thibouville, married Marguerite Hyacinthe Lamy, a cousin of his partners, and renamed the company using their combined names: Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy. Thibouville was descended from a line of wind and brass instrument makers dating back to the 16th century. But he was first and foremost an entrepreneur eager to develop a stringed-instrument business. He was not himself a luthier or bow maker. The company grew rapidly, reaching its peak with an annual production of over 150,000 instruments made by more than 1,000 luthiers. In 1896, Alfred Acoulon joined the company to take charge of instrument production. In 1908, Hugues-Émile Blondelet, a luthier in Mirecourt, joined the company as co-director. Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy closed its doors in 1969.

Guitar sound

Noble and profound

The guitar’s sound is noble and immediately impresses with its smoothness. The bass is deep; the treble is delicate, lively and colorful with great expressiveness. The touching sound of this vintage guitar awakens deep emotions.
This is undoubtedly a romantic guitar of the highest order, bringing the music of the period to life in an authentic way.
